Mocel’s Double Gold Medal Triumph at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition
We are thrilled to announce that both Mocel’s Cupreata and Ensamble have been awarded the prestigious Double Gold Medal at the renowned San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Over 6,000 spirits from around the world entered the competition. A Double Gold for both Mocel’s Cupreata and Ensamble means every judge on the panel gave each mezcal a Gold Medal during the blind taste test.
This extraordinary achievement is a true testament to the artistry and dedication that goes into crafting these exceptional Mocel mezcals. We are proud to be recognized among the finest spirits in the world and are excited to share this moment of triumph with our valued customers and community.
“The Olympics of Spirits” - A Coveted Honor
The San Francisco World Spirits Competition is the most respected and influential spirits competition globally, featuring an expert panel of judges who evaluate entries based on blind tastings. Each entry is blind-tasted and rigorously evaluated based on a set of criteria including aroma, flavor, balance, complexity, and overall quality. The judges assign medals to the spirits, including Double Gold, Gold, Silver, and Bronze, based on their characteristics and merits. With its rigorous judging process, this competition sets the industry standard for excellence and quality.
Craftsmanship at Its Finest
Simplicity, tradition, and community are the hallmarks of a true mezcal. Mocel is inspired by the mountainous region of Michoacán, Mexico, where our family comes from, and the region’s centuries-old mezcal artisanship and culture. Mocel uses two ingredients - 100% agave and water - and distills the mezcal in a wooden still unique to the Michoacán region. The distillation process is time-honored and time-intensive, resulting in limited, small batches, each with a distinct flavor profile. Mocel’s artisanal mezcales are then bottled in stunning, handmade ceramic bottles featuring artwork inspired by textile patterns native to Michoacán.
Gratitude to Our Community
This recognition not only reinforces Mocel’s position as a leading mezcal but also solidifies our commitment to preserving tradition and crafting spirits of unparalleled quality. We will continue to forge a mezcal culture in the United States that honors our history, the 400 years of mezcal artisanship, and the power of a shared experience to bring people together. We are so grateful to all those who have supported us on this remarkable journey.
Muchas gracias y salud!
